New Air Connection Announced by Copa Airlines Between Panama and Belize

Good news for Panama residents and visitors–Copa Airlines is adding regular service to Belize. This may seem like a minor step, but it’s always been frustrating to travel around the region. Now, with the addition of Belize, Copa will serve every country in Central America.

The new Copa service will start on Dec. 8, with two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Copa has been implementing a bold expansion strategy in the last year and we’ve already discussed in past posts the impact this will have on Panama City property. More flights bring more tourists, more short term renters and more potential real estate buyers. Additional air service also makes it easier for existing Panama City international residents to fly home and explore the region.

Copa now offers flights to 75 cities and 31 countries, making Panama City the true hub for the region.

In Belize they certainly understand the significance of the new route to Panama City, the hub for regional traffic. “I must reiterate how important this partnership is, as Copa will not only supply significant potential markets for Belize, but also offer excellent and competitive linkages to the Caribbean, Central and especially to the South American market,” said minister of tourism, culture and civil aviation Manuel Heredia Jr. said in a statement.

According to Copa, the Belize flights will be coordinated to provide easy connections to Sao Paulo, Brazil; San Jose, Costa Rica; Bogota, Cartagena and Medellin in Colombia; Santiago de Chile, Chile; Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador; Managua, Nicaragua; Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago; Havana, Cuba; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Lima, Peru. Copa is also offering Belize travels a “Stop Over” package, so they can enjoy the shopping and entertainment in Panama City for two nights.

Copa Airlines CEO Pedro Heilbron said the addition of the new destination will “consolidate our leadership in the region, strengthen our existing routes while at the same time allowing us to offer better connectivity and world class service to all of Central America, from Hub de las Americas, in Panama.”

Copa Airlines will use Embraer 190s with 94 seats on the Belize route, the company said.
