Spectacular Photos of Panama Canal Expansion

We all know the expansion of the Panama Canal is going to be a huge driver for the Panama City economy, impacting every aspect of the city, including real estate here in Punta Pacifica. The high level commerce generated by the Canal means more corporations increasing their presence in Panama City and more executives looking for the best luxury housing in the city.

But we often forget that the Canal is one of the world’s marvels, a feat of engineering and perseverance that attracts attention around the globe. With 90 percent of the work complete, the Panama Canal Authority recently opened up the expansion area for tours and 45,000 people showed up, eager to check out the new wonder of the world.

Time Magazine went a step further, sending out top photographer George Steinmetz to document the progress of the Canal from the air. The results are spectacular and really show the scale and achievement of the project.

“When you look at the size of a man next to this massive technology, it’s pretty impressive,” Steinmetz told the magazine. “It’s a huge logistical ballet. It’s very impressive.”

We can’t reprint the photos, but you can find his full slide show here.

And for more on the Canal, here is the latest update video from the Panama Canal Authority:
