PPR Launches Chinese-Language Panama Real Estate Portal

By Duncan McGowan

In response to China’s growing influence on Panama’s real estate market, Punta Pacifica Realty (PPR) has launched a Chinese-language property portal for Panama City.

The new effort is recognition that Chinese investors are already active in the market, says Jeff Barton, managing director of PPR. Interest has been growing at a meteoric rate since China and Panama formalized diplomatic relations last June, opening the door for a wide range of Chinese investments in the country.

“We are already working with Chinese brokers and investors who are investigating property in Panama,” Barton says. “The impact of China on the local market is only starting.”

The new landing site offers access to property sales and rental listings, information on Panama and news on Panama City, live-translated into Mandarin. PPR’s web site, the most comprehensive real estate portal in Panama City, includes access to exclusive listings, background on Panama City neighborhoods and development projects, and a news feed of Panama real estate news and analysis.

The Panama City property market is expected to see an immediate impact from Panama’s growing relationship with China, which has already resulted in large-scale infrastructure and trade deals. This month Air China is launching regular air service from Beijing to Panama City, which should provide a large boost to tourism from China.

China travelers are already the largest group of tourists in the world, and the number is expected to more than double by 2022, according to industry statistics.

“Panama is developing as a key partner in Latin America for China,” Barton says. “We are always trying to stay ahead of the curve and find ways to provide service for our clients.”

Chinese investors are active in property markets around the world. Panama City has many attributes they typically find appealing, including a vibrant Chinese community and an inventory of modern waterfront condominium towers.

“Prices for Panama City condos are well-below prices in the big cities around the world, which makes Panama an attractive market for Chinese investors,” Barton says. “All the factors are coming together.”
