Punta Pacifica Realty Featured in New York Times

A reporter for the New York Times recently sought out Punta Pacifica Realty (PPR) managing director Jeff Barton for his expert opinion for an article on Panama real estate market.

Reporter Alison Gregor asked Barton about the latest trends and which neighborhoods are attracting foreign buyers. He pointed to Ocean Reef, the man-made island community in Panama Bay, and Santa Maria, where La Maison by Fendi is one of several projects attracting international attention. Established areas like Punta Pacifica and Cinta Costera are also seeing an increase in buyers, he said.

The article was part of the New York Times’ International House Hunting series, which focuses on homes for sale in different countries. Barton has been featured in the article in the past, including one that put the spotlight on one of PPR’s clients.

The most recent article focused on a “Balinese-style villa  in the beach resort town of Coronado, on the Panama Coast.

Barton was asked about the sales trends in the coastal communities like Coronado. “The beach areas have been very slow for the past five years,” Barton said, and have “seen little foreign investment after experiencing a significant phase of overbuilding.”

In Panama City, Barton noted there has been an influx of Chinese buyers. “We are experiencing an uptick from the Chinese after Panama established diplomatic relations with China in 2017,” he said.
