Famed CNN foreign correspondent Richard Quest visited Panama for his popular international segment, “Quest’s World of Wonder.” Beyond a simple travel feature, Quest wanted to learn, “what is in the DNA of Panama that makes this city unique?”—a fascinating question to pose for this fast-growing, vibrant international city.

Quest’s feature seeks the “identity” of the city, noting the city has “tempted conquerors, famous pirates, and global superpowers throughout history.” Quest does a wonderful job highlighting the diversity and uniqueness of Panama’s culture, old and modern, from coffee to the economy driving the market.

Quest also interviewed developer Octavio Vallarino, who discusses the “magic” that makes the contemporary Panama City such a special place.

Ultimately, Quest captures something of the essence of the many forces shaping the city. Panama is technically “the age of a teenager” in its development and it is still shaping its identity, he concludes. “Today, gleaming skyscrapers- rivaling cities like Dubai- stand alongside 16th-century ruins as Panama City carves out an image of its own choosing,” he says.
