Fishing in Panama

Panama is starting to take its rightful spot among the world’s great fishing destinations. More and more experts are coming down to sample the waters and their reports feature dramatic stories of big fish and exciting trips.

Want proof? A recent article in Sport Fishing Magazine called Panama “one of the world’s very top destinations for saltwater fishermen.” In Panama City, new marinas are going in on the booming Amador causeway and Ocean Reef, the man-made island project off the coast of Punta Pacifica.

And now another well-known fishing expert has made the trek to Panama. Tyler Kapela, host of the TV show North American Fisherman, recently spent time with guides from the Tropic Star Lodge, fishing for dorado, yellowfin tuna and sailfish.

“It was a non-stop action,” according to the show’s producers.

“If you can impress a guy that’s been fishing most of his life in and around Florida you’ve done your job.” According to the show’s Web site. “That’s exactly what Albert Battoo and the rest of the Tropic Star Lodge crew did while on the water in Panama.”

Here is an excerpt from Mr. Kapela’s fishing adventure in Panama:
