Copa Airlines has announced an expanded list of international flights, as it moves to restart travel through Tocumen International airport.

Copa will be flying to more than 25 destinations in the Americas in October, including Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. This week Copa announced additional destinations in Brazil, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.

“We are reaffirming our commitment to ease the connectivity of the region so that families can reunite, businesses can remain afloat and essential supplies arrive at their destination… and economies that we serve can begin to ‘take-off,’” Copa said in a statement.

Copa emphasized that it has been working with governments of the region to follow health and safety protocols. “We are complying with all disinfection, hygiene, and all biosafety measures and protocols at each stage of your trip,” Copa said.

At the moment, many countries, including Panama, Chile, and Uruguay, only allow entry for citizens and residents who follow local guidelines. But this is expected to change in the weeks ahead, allowing “for the reactivation and gradual opening of new flights,” Copa said.

There have been a few false starts on restarting air travel during these uncertain times. But this appears to be the real move toward reopening, with safety protocols in place and structure to start resuming travel. On a personal level, we at PPR are looking forward to the day in the near future when we can once again greet our international friends in Panama City.
