Panama Named Best for Digital Nomads

If you can work from anywhere, then why not work from beautiful Panama? Beautiful surroundings, a low cost of living, and easy flight connections from around the world make it a perfect spot for “digital nomads” looking to establish their own workplace.

You don’t have to take our word for it. Forbes magazine writer Kathleen Peddicord recently named Panama one of the best places in the world to become a digital nomad. She points to Panama’s new Remote Worker Visa, which specifically targets digital nomads, which provides workers with confirmed jobs an opportunity to easily work from Panama.

The Remote Worker Visa essentially gives you the opportunity to stay in Panama for 18 months. If you want to stay in Panama permanently, “you can apply to switch your status to one of Panama’s dozen-plus residency programs, including the popular Friendly Nations program,” Peddicord notes.

To qualify for the Remote Worker Visa, you must be able to prove employment with a non-Panamanian company, prove at least $36,000, and show proof of health insurance. That;’s pretty much it.

At Punta Pacifica Realty, we’ve already seen the impact of the Remote Worker Visa. More renters are looking for larger apartments with rooms for offices. With so many major international companies established in Panama, the visa provides workers based outside the country with an opportunity to establish a base in Panama, while connecting to other businesses with offices here.

Digital nomads often point to Panama City’s established infrastructure and available technology as big pluses for choosing Panama as their digital office.

We expect to see more of these digital nomads, as word spreads about the Remote Worker Visa. “As the world continues to push through our pandemic era, working from home has become a fact of life,” Peddicord writes.
