Panama City’s Kosher Connections
Panama City’s large and vibrant Jewish community plays an important role in the city, and adds a distinct twist to the melting pot that makes up the city. One result is a wide range of kosher dining options in the city, something you don’t find in many Latin American cities.
“Panama has quietly become one of the most convenient destinations in the region for kosher travelers, with a concentration of certified options clustered in walkable, central neighborhoods,” Dani Klein, founder of YeahThatsKosher, wrote in a recent report.
Klein tracks the kosher dining scene on his site — “a global kosher restaurant & travel resource for the Jewish community” — and he clearly is impressed with the offerings in Panama City. He noted there were several fancy restaurants that require reservations, but he liked the more casual spots that reward spontaneity.
“Panama City offers a wide range of kosher dining options that are easy to access without advance planning,” Klein writes. “Unlike many cities where reservations are required to secure a kosher meal, Panama City offers multiple reliable spots that cater to spontaneous dining.”
Klein spotlights seven spots in Panama City that are “set up for walk-ins, quick service, or casual dining, making them especially useful for travelers and locals alike.”
The list ranges from Miznon, which features Israeli street food, to Shawarmax, a fast casual kosher option centered on shawarma-style dishes.
