Plan Now for Panama Jazz Festival

One of the coolest annual events in Panama City, the Panama Jazz Festival returns for its 17th edition next month.

From January 13 to 18, the city will come alive with the music of some of the region’s greatest musical artists. This year’s edition will spotlight the talent and musical history of Panamanian artist Reggie Johnson, under the theme, “From the heart of America to the world.”

This year’s edition will feature more than 20 top artists representing a wide variety of countries and styles, according to Danilo Pérez, the Grammy Award-winning founder of the Festival. Headliners include five-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves, Cuban star Issac Delgado and saxophone star Ravi Coltrane, son of legend John Coltrane.

Events will be staged throughout the city, making it a wonderful advertisement for the city. Over the years, the Jazz Festival has developed into a great cultural attraction for the city, drawing more than 300,000 visitors, according to organizers. The festival “makes the isthmus an epicenter of art, education, and culture,” they note.

The festival also plays an important role in education and expanding the role of music in the Panama community, supporting and inspiring the next generation of musicians. The festival includes a wide array of workshops, jam sessions, and clinics. A special red carpet gala event on Jan. 15, in the Anayansi Theater of the Atlapa Convention Center, will raise money for education programs.
