Magazine Offers Guide to Sport Fishing in Panama

Panama has become “one of the world’s very top destinations for saltwater fishermen,” according to a new article in Sport Fishing Magazine, where the writers know their fishing.

With all the tourist activities in Panama, fishing is sometimes lost amid all the talk about sun, sand and luxury resorts. But the magazine is not alone in its assessment. Panama is well known as a paradise for sports fishing.

“Most serious saltwater anglers in the United States (and beyond) probably fall into one of three categories: Those who might dream of sport fishing in Panama, those planning to fish Panama for the first time, and those who are making arrangements to go back again,” writes Doug Olander, author of the Sports Fishing cover story.

Several areas make Panama stand out, including great variety; trophy fish; “productive coastal waters, islands and seamounts”; calm waters and ease of access, the article notes.

The article provides a great guide to some of Panama’s best fishing spots. It’s not available online, but Tom Bymer at Panama Perspective has posted a .pdf. Here is the link.
