Tourism Authority Promotes New Amador Convention Center

The Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) has started promoting the new Amador Convention Center under construction on the Amador Causeway.

Last month ATP officials traveled to Las Vegas to attend the IMEX America, the global meetings and incentive travel convention, to promote the new facility, which will be the largest in the region. The new center attracted interest from European and U.S. companies looking for venues, said Erich Velásquez, head of the ATP’s Project Management Office

The “access and the redesign” are attracting company executives, he said.

The new Amador Convention Center should provide a big boost to Panama City’s international business and create a new anchor along the fast-growing Amador Causeway. The 58,000-square-meter facility is the centerpiece of a $300 million government campaign to make Amador the new center for investment and recreation in Panama City.

The project was stalled, due to issues with the construction companies, but work resumed earlier this year. A new design downsized the social aspects of the project and focused on the convention business.

Work is progressing on the new facility, which is expected to be completed in 2018. An article in Revista Summa suggested the facility is 36 percent complete.
