Attention Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mel Gibson

Three lush, tropical undeveloped islands off the coast of Panama are for sale, priced at $100 million. But the owners have placed tight restrictions on the sale, requiring that 70 percent of the islands must be left as a nature preserve.

The Cayonetas Islands are part of the Las Perlas (The Pearl) archipelago, off the coast of Panama City. While most of us may not be able to afford to buy the Cavonetas, other islands in beautiful chain are easily accessible from the city, including Contadora, one of the most popular destinations. A daily ferry runs from the dock at the foot of the Trump Ocean Club to the Las Perlas Islands.

The Pearl Islands are also attracting international attention. Ritz Carlton has announced plans to build a resort on Pearl Island, one of the largest islands in the chain.

The Cayonetas Islands are available for sale for the first time in more than 35 years and include about 50 beaches, 19 miles of coastline and 1,800 acres, according to coverage in the Los Angeles Times. As the article notes, these type of eco projects have been popular recently with celebrities like Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mel Gibson.

The islands are also home to endangered turtles and many species of rare birds. Co-owners Pangea World, which focuses on sustainable development and scientific exploration, is stipulating that only 30 percent of the land can be used for “eco-conscious development.”
