Copa Begins Direct Flights to Austin

Copa Airlines just made it a lot easier for central Texas residents to commute to Panama. Last week the airline officially launched a nonstop four-day-a-week service to the Texas capital.

The inauguration of the connections made news in Austin and was great publicity for Panama. The event was celebrated with speakers and Panama dancers and was covered by local TV news stations.

“The addition of new international destinations has a profound impact,”  said Austin Airport Chief Experience and Performance Officer Ghizlane Badawi. “It’ll help us create new jobs, stimulate economic growth, Panama real estate, connect families and friends, and also strengthen the position of our city as a global destination.”

Austin is a perfect fit for Panama. Austin is a vibrant mix of high-tech companies, music, and good ol’ Texas initiative, full of people ready to explore new places. It’s also one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, thanks to companies like Tesla and Apple.

Many companies with Austin roots also have headquarters in Panama City. And Panama has always been a popular destination with young explorers coming through the University of Texas.

Flights from Austin-Bergstrom to Panama City will depart on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons. Return flights will leave Panama City on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. The flights will use a Boeing 737-800, which has 16 seats in business class and 144 seats in the main cabin, Copa reports.
