Copa Increasing Flights to U.S., Venezuela

Copa Airlines continues to expand its network of destinations and flight choices, making it easier than ever to travel to Panama.

This week Copa announced that it was expanding its route map to include connections to Austin, Texas, and Barquisimeto, Venezuela. With the addition of the new routes, Copa will serve 81 destinations across 32 countries. The airline currently operates 2,188 weekly flights, SimplyFlying reports, making it easy to reach Panama from just about anywhere in the world.

The ease of flight connections is always rated as a top consideration for international property buyers. Copa’s growth plays an important role in making Panama an attractive option, especially for property investors who want to be able to regularly visit their properties.

Copa Airlines recently introduced flights to Baltimore in the United States and Manta in Ecuador; next month, the Panamanian carrier will start flying to Austin, Texas.  and finally, it will launch services to Barquisimeto, Venezuela’s fourth-largest city, in October. Copa operates 35 weekly flights to Venezuela.

“This expansion of our route network in Venezuela will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the community by offering more travel options to the entire region,” said Pedro Heilbron, Copa’s president, in a statement.

Copa also reported its financial results last week. In the first quarter, the airline reported a net profit of $121.5 million, which was a substantial jump compared to the $89.4 million net profit in the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Copa said it expects to close the year with an active fleet of 99 narrowbody jets, including 32 MAX 9s, 58 737-800s, and nine 737-700s, SimplyFlying reports.

One interesting additional tidbit: Copa also shared its main routes: Cancun (operating 53 weekly flights), San José (Costa Rica, with 52 weekly flights), and Bogota (with 49 weekly services).
