Infrastructure Upgrade Underway in Punta Pacifica

Construction crews have started work to repair a rain and flood control pipeline in Punta Pacifica, which should help resolve one of the nuisances of life in the waterfront community.

The crews can already be seen in the streets, working on what should be a major improvement for the area. The work is expected to take at least three months—and there will undoubtedly be some traffic snarls in the short term—but the long term benefits certainly will be worth the hassles.

The work will repair a 60-inch pipeline that has been obstructed for many years, according to a notice sent by Constructora MECO, the construction firm overseeing the project. The company has promised to take elaborate steps to minimize the impact of the construction, including efforts to shield the noise and keep traffic disruptions to a minimum.

While the work will certainly provide some inconvenience for the next few weeks, the project is welcome news for everyone in Punta Pacifica. The work demonstrates that the government is responsive to the community and trying to address infrastructure issues.

Punta Pacifica, with its collection of skyscrapers, is a world-class neighborhood attracting investors and second home owners from around the world. But Panama City is still a young city with the expected growing pains. This work provides evidence the city is catching up and making sure every aspect of the city meets international standards.
