Inside Homes on Man-Made Islands in Panama

by Jeff Barton

The prestigious Robb Report has put the spotlight on Ocean Reef Islands, the luxurious man-made islands accessible by a 500-foot bridge from Punta Pacifica.

The islands are the “very first pair of artificial real estate islands” in Latin America, the Robb Report article notes. Ocean Reef is made up of two islands, with a total of 46 acres for residential communities, resort amenities, and a marina.

According to Robb, “sales for the first island were a large success as all of the home-sites already sold and only a handful of the Garden Apartments (starting at $1.3 million) are still available.” The second island is still under construction and includes 65 oceanfront lots priced from $3.7 million, ranging in size from 9,145 to 13,454 square feet.

“Buyers can create their dream home or vacation retreat in partnership with the island’s Design Review Committee, ensuring high-quality building execution and aesthetically pleasing architecture,” according to Robb Report.

Several ocean-facing condos will range from $1.3 million to $1.9 million and penthouse with 360-degree views from rooftop terraces will start at $1.9 million. “A few residences even come equipped with a private dock and jet-ski slips,” the magazine says.

“One of the highlights of life on the islands,” the article notes, “is proximity to the Panama Canal, which regularly sees the likes of ocean liners and sailing yachts, connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and provides offshore exploration from Panama.” (Although, for the record, even better Panama Canal views can be found at Naos Harbour Island on the Amador Causeway.)

Ocean Reef will eventually include a 200-slip marina, includes space for mega-yachts. Owners have started to move in to the first garden apartments on the first island, Robb says.
