The third bridge spanning the Panama Canal is reaching its final construction stage, taking its place as yet another engineering marvel.

The bridge, which spans the Atlantic entrance to the Canal, is considered “the world’s longest prestressed concrete bridge,” according to Arch Daily. Concrete was chosen instead of steel due to its resilience to the climate, the paper reports.

The bridge is 250 feet high, allowing clearance for the massive Neopanamax containerships that use the expanded Canal. The bridge, due to open next year, will link Colon to communities to the west of the canal and ease traffic on the two existing bridges. A fourth bridge, which is in the advanced planning stages, will include room for the expanding Panama metro to cross the Canal.

The Panama Canal Authority recently posted an aerial video that shows the bridge in all its splendor.
