Panama Ambassador Promotes Strong U.S. Ties

In a recent interview, Panama’s ambassador to the United States, Ramón Martínez, made it clear that the ties between the two countries remain strong and will continue to grow in the coming years.

“Panama and the United States have a unique history that has united our nations and created a strong relationship based on shared democratic values and common priorities,” he told Global Americans.

The ambassador talked about several initiatives fueling sustained growth in the region. Panama plays a key role in the supply chain and America remains the U.S.’s most important trading partner.

“Panama understands that today, more than ever, it is important that we partner with the U.S. to build more resilient supply chains and advance digital transformation,” he said. “We are looking for U.S. companies to take advantage of the many incentives we offer.”

In his talk, the ambassador emphasized the importance of the growth of multinational corporations in Panama, a theme reinforced in a video recently released by the government. The growth of corporate headquarters provides a strong driver for the economy and the real estate market.

“Panama is taking concerted action with the private sector to advance its position as a manufacturing hub,” Ambassador Martinez said. “For example, following the pandemic, we passed the Manufacturing Services for Multinationals Act, also known as the EMMA regime, which allows companies to shorten their supply chains, nearshore their manufacturing operations, and leverage our logistics infrastructure for distribution purposes.”
