Spanish Airline Plans Big Increase in Panama Flights

Air Europa is the latest airline to increase its flights to Panama. The Spanish airline recently announced it will increase its flights to Panama by 32.4%, starting in December.

The budget airline will operate six weekly flights between Madrid and Panama City, and expand its connections to other cities in the region. Diego García, general director of Air Europa in the Americas Region, said in anMartes Financero, that Panama is “one of the fastest growing markets in Central America and the flights register 90% occupancy.”

Those numbers are a pretty good indication of Panama’s growing popularity in Europe. Garcia said the growth is both the business and tourist segments. Between January and July, Air Europa transported 82,992 passengers roundtrip, an increase of 61.33% compared to the 51,441 passengers that it mobilized in the seven months of 2022, according to data from Tocumen International Airport.

Air Europa is also increasing flights to other regional destinations, including Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Ecuador. The new flights will increase the number of seats available throughout the American continent to 3 million, the airline says.

Air Europa is not alone in increasing service to Panama, a sign that demand is growing around the world. Copa Airlines continues to expand its network, including new flights to Austin Texas, and more frequent flights to Venezuela.
